Critiquing Rights
An Introduction
The premise of this blog is that human rights have become an elite discourse, with ‘discourse’ understood in the Foucauldian sense of a field of expertise which produces its own subject. That subject is the mythical ‘rights-holder’, who is eternally vulnerable, forever in need of the pastoral care of the benevolent state, and cut off from the society around him. I elucidate that story, and explore the consequences, in regular updates.
